Qiddiya Infrastructure Projects

Qiddiya is an entertainment megaproject to create a new capital of entertainment, sports, and arts. Construction started at the beginning of 2019 south-west of Riyadh on a site composed of raw, undeveloped land.

Furthermore, the site presents a range of unique challenges given its three main topographic features of being located on a wide wadi, with narrow plateau and rugged, mountainous surroundings.

Pace was appointed to a framework agreement to provide a full range of construction supervision consultancy services in 2021 to support the ongoing progress of the infrastructure projects ranging from design review, inspection, project management, technical consultancy, and commissioning.

HELLO regions

Dilmunia Mosque

Dimulnia Island is located on the North-Eastern coast of the archipelago of Bahrain. The development has been coined Bahrain’s ‘wellbeing island’, providing its inhabitants lifestyles that promote wellbeing.

Pace took part in an international design competition to design the centerpiece mosque for the new island development. The proposed design embodies local culture, the region’s architectural vernacular, the Muslim faith and the aspirations of the client.

Positioned at the island’s gateway, the mosque has a strong presence on the island’s seafront. The plot’s topography provides multiple points for descent. This fosters a connection between the elevated streetscape, harmonious quiet of the mosque’s submerged main functions and seafront promenade overlooking the entrance to the island.

The architectural design encourages worshippers to immerse themselves in a journey guided by light, magnitude and reflection. Worshippers are compensated for every physical step taken on their descent towards prayer by a circulation that is designed to enhance ones physical and spiritual journey from beginning to end.

The design for the mosque was featured at Downtown Dubai’s ‘Shape of Things to Come Exhibition’ in late 2020 and subsequently featured on CNN and CNN Arabia.

New Palace of Justice Kuwait

The Amiri Diwan engaged Pace to rebuild and expand the historic Palace of Justice in Kuwait City, which has stood as a symbol of fairness and integrity for decades. The New Palace of Justice will be the largest judicial building in the Middle East. The project is located in a prime location in Kuwait City on a plot of 34,500sqm area. The new building will have an area of 356,189sqm and with 141 courtrooms and offices spaces over 25 floors (3 basements + 22 floors and 1 technical). In addition, both conventional and automated car parking will provide 2741 parking spaces.

Every feature within the building is considered to reflect and supports its dual-functionality as a space for both citizens and the Government. The exterior design, with its solid Plaza and floating, cantilevered wings, symbolise the Scales of Justice. Between the two wings runs a distinctive Golden Geode, which forms the heart of the building. The Plaza forms the entryway into the entire facility, its open and transparent concourse representing the platform in which the voices of the people are heard.

The external facade covers the facility’s offices. Of the two facades, it is the one that has more functional requirements. To meet the needs of the lawyers, judges and other employees who will work there every day, it has been equipped with a glass frontage composed of different sized windows, based on the specific purposes of the rooms that will be behind those windows, to provide ample natural light. The external facade module was devised to provide optimal window sizes, with a graded depth from South and North, following a Solar Impact Study. A modular bronze detail unifies the entire facade.

Sabah Al Salem Stadium

Al Arabi Sports Club was founded in 1960 and is the first official sports club to be established in Kuwait.

In 2017 with growing activity, profile and scope at the club, The Public Authority for Youth and Sports commissioned Pace to redesign and supervise the construction of the club’s centrepiece stadium as part of an ambitious plan to almost double its capacity from 17,000 to 30,000 seats and expand the facilities of the club to increase its ability to embrace other sports.

The client’s objectives were clear, to create a world-class and multi-functional stadium that embraces more than just one sport, while reflecting their own ambition to raise the profile and practice of football excellence in the country. One of the key criteria was to design a stadium that doubles the seating capacity of the existing stadium while preserving the same footprint area requirements. This will involve demolishing the existing stadium and replacing it with a new stadium as per FIFA and UEFA standards. Upon completion, the stadium will be the only FIFA-compliant venue in Kuwait.

A white continuous block makes the wall and roof look like one element. This element wraps around the tiers as tightly as possible and incorporates the symbol of the club. Wheat leaves on the logo were chosen as the symbol for the new era in the life of the club as they mean growth and prosperity.

The project was awarded ‘Best Future Stadium Design’ at the World Stadium Congress in 2019, a first stadia award for the country of Kuwait.

Research Centres of Excellence for KISR

The Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR) has commissioned Pace to study, design and deliver state-of-the-art research facilities for their Complex of Research Centers of Excellence (CRCE) located in to two sites within their main campus in Shuwaikh, Kuwait.

The project involves the design of two new centres to unite the North East and South West of the campus. These two centres will include research facilities, laboratories, testing plants and services in across various scientific sub-disciplines.

The design of the centres are led with the concept of creating a design that is innovative, functional, flexible and sustainable. The designs created are also responsive to the local climate, incorporate the highest standards of building systems and are sensitive to local customs and traditions.

Pace were commissioned to develop the master plan for Abdali Kuwait Economic Zone (KEZ), a new development located 90km from Kuwait Metropolitan area and international airport. The project aims to establish Kuwait’s first smart sustainable city development on a site located inland and close to the Iraq border.

Al Abdali is optimally positioned to provide a gateway function for export-focused trade between Kuwait, Iraq and the wider GCC with one of its major assets being access to planned GC Rail line and major highways. The site benefits from proximity to oil fields, making it a potentially attractive proposition for oilfield services companies. The development will provide a strategic platform for businesses and investors in petro-chemicals, manufacturing, waste management, logistics and retail to expand into Iraq and Iran through its exceptional connectivity to local markets, labour pools and ports.

Avenues Phase IV

The Avenues Phase IV takes its design inspiration from world architecture, taking notes from famous shopping hubs from across the planet to blend a mixture of old-world, traditional, and contemporary designs in a kaleidoscope of complementary styles. The underlying objective of this approach was to give the real sense of an indoor town. The whole project is roofed in a combination of glass, ETFE, and flat membranes. The roofing required a specialised design to deliver the feeling of outdoor indoor via environmentally controlled surroundings that are suitable for year-round occupation within the harsh climate as well as providing appropriate natural lighting.

A multitude of industry-leading technologies are being employed across the project, including LED screens, Building Management Systems, Vehicle Guidance Systems, Hydroponic Planting and Living Green Walls. Also, intricate CNC cut patterns on titanium-coated surfaces and supersized composite panels with metallic coatings that incorporate feature lighting.

Jahra Medical City

The new Jahra Medical City Kuwait is one of the largest healthcare development projects in the Middle East. The project forms a key part of the state’s ongoing plans to upgrade national health care and raise the capacity of hospitals by 60%.

The layout of the new internationally standardised medical complex comprises of eight separate buildings. The most prominent is the main hospital building, which has a total built-up area of 440,000sqm, and rises to 15 storeys. The project is valued at 365 million Kuwaiti Dinars ($ 1.18 billion USD) and includes a fully equipped 1234 bed hospital, a fully equipped dental facility with 115 treatment rooms and a regional health administration building.

Furthermore, the hospital will feature a women’s centre, trauma centre, 32 operating suites including two hybrid operating rooms, a hybrid CT operating suite, and a hybrid MRI operating suite. The outpatient facilities have 22 departments with 135 clinics with state of the art equipment which includes a 10 seat hyperbaric chamber, the first multi-seat facility of its kind in Kuwait. Other service buildings include a public car park and staff car park, both accommodating 5,000 cars and two emergency shelters, each for 300 people.

Jazan City Waterfronts

Pace has been commissioned to study and design the north and south waterfront, shelterbelts and marine sidewalk areas for the port of Jazaan city in the southwest corner of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The objective of the project is to provide a range of design options for the development of the area to improve its economic and social prosperity whilst reducing the negative impacts on a range of issues including wildlife and flora.

The study also assessed the climate and environment of Jazan City to provide necessary design solutions to support the development of neighbouring areas of interest including Jazan University, heritage village, sport city, and citadel.

Marassi Al Bahrain

Marassi Al Bahrain is a unique waterfront commercial & residential mega-project situated within the master-planned community of Diyar Al Muharraq – Bahrain’s largest private urban project.

Eagle Hills has appointed Pace to provide a full range of design and construction supervision services for the development which spans over a plot of 875,000sqm and is set to become one of the Kingdom’s major shopping, family entertainment and dining destinations.

Located near to major highways and in close proximity to the central business district, upon completion, the development will house approximately 22,000 residents within 5,600 high-end residential units.

Marassi Al Bahrain will feature a high-end shopping mall ‘Marassi Galleria’ with 200,000sqm of gross floor area attracting world-leading brands, many for the first time in Bahrain. The adjacent waterfront promenade will house two world-class waterfront hotels – the Vida and Address. Both hotels combine a range of high-end serviced residential units alongside traditional hotel rooms and services attributed to high-end hospitality including spas, gyms, premium pools and beach.
